RuhrKunstMuseen. Die Sammlung / RuhrArtMuseums. The Collection

The 20 art museums of the Ruhr metropolis released their first ever joint catalogue giving an overview of their collections. Titled “RuhrKunstMuseen.  Die Sammlung” (RuhrArtMuseums. The Collection), the book hit the market as part of the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010. The catalogue is the most visible sign so far of the newly created RuhrArtMuseums network and its goal of shining a spotlight on the region’s diverse arts scene and impressive collections of modern art.

The book starts with an introductory essay by Georg Imdahl on “Pictures of the Ruhr region,” followed by 150 colourful pages showing some of the museums’ masterpieces and profiles of the museums, including photos of the exhibition spaces and the museums’ architecture. Highlights of the collections include works of art by Liebermann, Renoir, Matisse, Lehmbruck, Marc, Macke, Kirchner, Albers, Nolde, Richter, Stella, Schumacher, Höfer and Turrell.

The catalogue is published in German language with a summary in English. Its 272 pages include about 190 colourful illustrations in a format of 22,5 x 16,5 cm.
