Ruhr University Bochum Art Collections: Situation Kunst  The Ruhr-Universität Bochum modern art collection were extended in 1990 thanks to a gift from Alexander von Berswordt dedicated to Max Imdahl. The gift led to the permanent exhibition building of the Situation Kunst (for Max Imdahl) in Bochum-Weitmar. The view of art taught by the art historian Max Imdahl (1925–1988) was of central importance to the foundation of the “Situation Kunst”. The entire complex has been designed to place art, architecture and nature in dialogue with one another. 

On the project’s first floor, one can see Max Imdahl’s scientific legacy as well as representative works by the artists Gotthard Graubner, Norbert Kricke, Arnulf Rainer and Jan J. Schoonhoven on display in spaces specially designed for them. Three environments have been created together with Maria Nordman, David Rabinowitch and Richard Serra: Nordmann’s “A Room With Two Doors”, Rabinowitsch’s "Tyndale Sculpture" and Richard Serra’s "Circuit III".
